Volunteers Needed

It takes many helpers from all parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to help us
make an event of this magnitude successful.

If you want to be a part of something big, we would love to have you.
We have many positions available, apply today and help make TDY successful.

All volunteers must have the following:
Their own car (truck or large van preferred)
Valid Driver’s License and
Proof of Insurance

Luggage Pick Up & Drop Off Driver
We supply the U-Haul

  • Pick Up the riders’ luggage at the designated hotels and brings them to designated hotels in the finishing city.
  • Each rider is allowed to bring 2 bags (no more than 25 lbs each), so there could be up to 100 bags in one day.
  • The luggage transportation driver does NOT have to follow the same route as the riders.  In most cases it is about a 2 hour drive from city to city.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

START & FINISH TIMES

  • 6:30 am at the starting city until all luggage dropped off in the finishing city, usually about 2-3 hours in total.

SAG Drivers

Drive along with the riders, carry their extra equipment and assist them whenever necessary.

  • A vehicle large enough to transport a bike to the finishing city is helpful.
  • Riders will load the vehicles with their extra equipment.
  • We are looking for 6-8 SAG drivers daily.
  • The riders will let the SAG driver know what the best way to support them is, some riders tell the driver to drive ahead of them 20-30 miles and relax for a bit, others will ask that they stay with them.
  • We ask that the last SAG vehicle picks up all yard signs when passing them and brings them to the finishing city.
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance required.

START & FINISH TIMES

  • Daily starting at 6:30 am until their riders get to the next city.
  • The drivers will meet at the starting location and the riders will put the equipment in the car.
  • FINISHING TIME
    • Varies by what group of riders the SAG is with.  Some groups finish by 12 pm, others by 3 or 4 pm.

Aid Station Attendant

We have three (3) Aid Stations along each section, they are located around miles 30, 60 & 90 (stations 1,2, & 3).

  • At the beginning of each day, riders will leave their extra water bottles, food, snacks, etc, at the starting location.
  • Each bag will be sealed and clearly marked with the riders’ name and what station number they want that bag at.
  • Aid Station volunteers come to the starting city to pick up the riders’ bags along with other necessary equipment.
  • You then bring the riders’ bags to the location you are working.
  • The riders will probably stop at each station for 20-30 minutes.

Type of Aid Stations:

  • If the area has a pavilion with picnic tables that is already at the location (the most ideal), we use that.
  • If there is not a pavilion we use a tent and table.  We will provide a table and pop up tent for stations that require it.
  • You set up and take down the table and tent and bring them to the finishing city.
    • If the last SAG vehicle has room, they could possibly bring it to the finishing city.  But we won’t know that for sure until the day of each ride.
  • Each hydration station attendant is finished when the last group of riders has passed them.

Resposibilities:

  • Set up and take down the table and tent and bring them to the finishing city.
    • If the last SAG vehicle has room, they could possibly bring it to the finishing city.  But we won’t know that for sure until the day of each ride.
  • After all the riders have passed your station, you are finished.
  • The last group of riders will let the volunteers know that they are the last group.

We encourage you to make the station memorable.  You can turn it into a theme, play music, whatever you want to make it fun for the riders.

  • Make sure to bring yourself snacks, lunch, beverages, and a charged cell phone.
  • Keep in mind, in some locations, you will be in the middle of nowhere.
  • Leave NOTHING BEHIND. Please tear down, clean up and return all items to the finishing city.

START & FINISH TIMES

The following are estimated start and finish times, you are finished when all the riders have passed you.

  • 6:30 am – 7:00 am.  All Hydration Station Attendants pick up the supplies from the city we are starting in.
  • Hydration Station #1 (approximately 30 miles into the ride).  Volunteers must be there from 8:00 am until the final riders pass them at ~10:00 am.
  • Hydration Station #2 (approximately 60 miles into the ride). Volunteers must be there from 9:30 am until the final riders pass them at ~12:00 pm.
  • Hydration Station #3 (approximately 90 miles into the ride).  Workers must be there from 11:30 am until the final riders pass them at ~3:00 pm.

Yard Sign Placement

  • Pick up the yard signs from TDY staff 2 days before we will be riding in your area.
  • Place signs in designated areas along course (exact locations are already figured out).
  • You will need to download the route onto your phone.
  • We will give you the route info when we give you the signs.
